Border Monitoring Visits in Kyrgyzstan
UNHCR NO in Kyrgyzstan and partners (FVLWB) jointly with State Migration Service visited 10 border check points in Jalalabad and Batken provinces covering border areas with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on 20-23 of May. During mission they have been introduced to the State Border Service personnel, assessed UNHCR information stands and discussed with border officials at entry points on asylum issues, providing information on international and national obligations on asylum-seekers and refugees arriving at state borders, identification and referral system. Also, training was conducted on May 24th for SBS personnel and head of shifts on International law and national legislature on refugees and treatment of asylum seekers at the border by UNHCR staff and implementing partners.
The UNHCR Regional Representation for Central Asia expressed its full support to the Government of Uzbekistan in addressing statelessness in the country.
As announced on 4 July 2019 by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the Kyrgyz Republic is the first country in the world that solved the issue of statelessness.
20 June is marked as World Refugee Day both in Tajikistan and across the globe.
UNHCR Tajikistan together with NGO “Refugees, Children and Vulnerable Citizens” are announcing a photo contest on the theme “Tajiks and Refugees as Neighbours and Friends”.
